Social Determinants of Health Global Summit: From Grassroots to Legislation!
(Brought to you by Shalom: Eagle's Wings and Ki Leadership Institute)

The social determinants of health vary from country to country but the consensus in Canada is that there are about 12.  The social determinants of health (SDH) refer to "to a specific group of social and economic factors within the broader determinants of health. These relate to an individual's place in society, such as income, education or employment"  (Government of Canada, 2024).

The SDH are:

  1. Income and social status

  2. Employment and working conditions

  3. Education and literacy

  4. Childhood experiences

  5. Physical environments

  6. Social supports and coping skills

  7. Healthy behaviours

  8. Access to health services

  9. Biology and genetic endowment

  10. Gender

  11. Culture

  12. Race / Racism

At this summit we will discuss a few of them (or issues that can be deemed sub-arms) and some call-to-action steps to effect positive changes in society at both micro and macro levels.
